FIND YOUR SWEET SPOT
In tennis, the “sweet spot” is like hitting the bullseye on a target. It is the perfect spot on the racket where a player can achieve optimum power, accuracy and control.
The sweet spot represents the personalised journey of each player. It highlights the importance of finding the right balance and pathway that suits each individuals’ unique needs. Just as in tennis, where hitting the sweet spot leads to success, in life, achieving goals and learning efficiently requires finding the sweet spot. The point where effort meets skill, resulting in optimal performance and fulfilment.

Hi, I’m Sami!
Tennis Background
I began playing tennis at the age of 4 in the basement of my family home, where after many shattered lightbulbs and bruises on my dad’s body I quickly fell in love with the sport. Through years of hard work and commitment, I rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a top 10 player in Canada before receiving a full scholarship to play Division 1 tennis at Iowa State University in the U.S.
Coaching Background
With over 5 years of coaching experience, I have worked with a wide demographic all over the world. I began coaching at the age of 16 back in my home country of Canada for the city of London and various country clubs before continuing my playing career in America. After graduating from Iowa State University in 2017 I moved to New Zealand where I began coaching after school programs and holiday camps around Auckland. In 2020 I took on a new coaching position at New Zealand’s first tennis academy, the Lavie Academy, where I worked as both a High-Performance & Junior Development Coach. Boasting high playing capabilities, I pride myself in being both a coach and hitting partner to deliver a unique and superior coaching experience for my clients.

Why I Started Sweet Spot Tennis
Tennis is a lifelong sport that unites people and fosters a sense of community, yet in Sydney, the exclusive structure of clubs and lack of public and free courts can sometimes create barriers for everyone to access.
I believe in making tennis more accessible to everyone in the community, allowing players of all backgrounds to share their love for the sport. This inclusivity extends to breaking down gender barriers in a heavily male dominated industry by supporting and promoting more female coaches and players. Female coaches are hard to come by with clubs I have visited not having a single female tennis coach in its whole time of operation.
In history tennis has had some of the most knowledgeable, strong, empowering and skilled women in the sports world, and I believe it’s important to showcase this and keep their efforts alive. By creating a more inclusive and diverse tennis environment, we can open up the sport to everyone and cultivate a thriving community not based on social or economic status.
